Sewer Solutions Loose Connections?

So I bought the sewer solutions kit knowing full well it wasn’t long enough for my home dump. I wanted to get it in my hands so I could see what I needed to finish my run. All I need is another 25’ hose. I’ll have the 10’ hose that it came with and attach the 25’ extension hose to it. This will only be used for home dumping. I plan to use some worm drives when connecting the two hoses together but what about the pvc fittings? Should I cement them together? You’ve got the 90 degree elbow that attaches to the black dump cap. Should that remain removable?

RE: Running Dedicated Water Line For RV at Home?

I’m really not concerned about it freezing because I wouldn’t be using the water line in the winter. How bout the following setup. Have a splitter on my outdoor spigot. One side for regular garden hose and one side for the camper. The camper side is hooked up using a short run of pex which then connects to copper tubing running underground for about 75’ to another spigot for the camper. This would solve the buried pex problem with it getting chewed up. I already have the fittings to attach to the camper water inlet to blow out the lines with my compressor. Couldn’t I simply unscrew the regular garden hose side, attach my compressor to that side, open all the water valves and blow the line out in the fall? I just need a new fitting to attach to that side. This side of the house is north facing so it gets no sun. If I have to replace a few feet of pex every so often then that’s no biggie. What do you think?

Running Dedicated Water Line For RV at Home?

So when we are camping we always use a splitter on the water spigot at the campground. One line runs to the camper water intake and the other goes to the sewer flush. We only connect the sewer flush to the camper once we actually need it. So no that we decided to store the camper at our house we are looking for ways to basically have a full hookup site at our house. We only have one outdoor water spigot and it’s in our backyard about 75’ from the camper. I’d love to have something a little closer and was wondering if I could put a splitter on my backyard spigot. One line would be for general yard stuff and the other would go towards the camper. I was thinking of using and burying pex for the 75’ run to the camper and then having it end on a post with dual spigots or a single spigot with a basic splitter again. Now if I did this, could I simply leave the original spigot turned on all the time so that I’d have water at the camper whenever I needed it? I mean, it’s not the end of the world to walk 75’ to turn the water on but if I could have it right at the camper that would be awesome. Also, if I can keep that 75’ line pressurized all the time then should I worry about the actual water quality? The water would be running a few times a year from April through October and we don’t drink it.

RE: Can I Dump Through Sewer Vent?

My parents were the original owner of the same exact house down the block. Almost 50 years ago. My wife and I bought the same model house as my parents house 4 years ago. I’m pretty well versed in this style of house and the oil tanks were placed in the back of the house. They have a fill pipe and a vent pipe about 2’ from each other. The pipe I’m talking about is in front of the house. You can clearly hear water flowing if you stand near this pipe. These houses were built with sewer and never had any sort of septic tank. I guess one day I’ll dump my green hose down this pipe for a bit to test things out. If all is well then I’ll look into dumping the TT there in the future.

RE: Proper Power Receptacle For Home?

Thanks everyone. Just had a new 50a receptacle put in at the back side of the house this morning. I think that’s the right decision for our needs.

RE: Can I Dump Through Sewer Vent?

100% for the sewer. We have gas and and houses that have oil tanks are in the backyard. You can even hear water gurgling as it flows out. Trust me, I’ve lived in the area for over 40 years. Lol

Can I Dump Through Sewer Vent?

So we are lucky enough to have sewers at our house. About a foot away from our house is a metal sewer vent that looks like the picture below. It's just a metal pipe coming from the ground with a cap on it. It is not threaded at all. Let's say a got a macerator pump for my TT. Could I hook it up and then run a garden hose down the vent to empty my tanks? https://sbphinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Mushroom-Cap.jpeg height=200 width=200

Bathroom Fan Upgrade

The puny fan in our bathroom vent died on our last trip. 75% of our camping is at the local beach with zero shade so we run the bathroom fan 24/7 while there. We also have a maxair or fantastic fan in the living room. It’s one of the reversible ones on a thermostat. It works well but the opening mechanism broke so I have to replace the mechanism. Both fans have the smaller maxair vent covers on them. What fan should I use to replace the bathroom fan? I’m looking for an easy install and the vortex seems to be an easy replacement with a few screws. Obviously we are used to the loud puny fan dining 24/7 but how does the vortex II compare to that when running on low or high? Are the max or fantastic fans as easy to put up as the vortex? Any other ideas? Also, we only have a dual bulb light fixture in the bathroom. Someone had suggested running a led light strip above the fan to help brighten the room and you’d be able to tap into the 12v wiring there.

Moth Balls Melt Solo Cup

We’ve been putting loose moth balls in solo cups and leaving them around the camper when we winterize. Never had any kind of issues in the spring once we dewinterized. This last winter was different. The moth balls actually made the bottom of the solo cups disintegrate. It’s as if they melted. Any idea why? I just don’t want the same thing to happen this winter so Im trying to research it before buying anything this time around.

Proper Power Receptacle For Home?

We always kept the TT in storage but now keep it in our side yard. We use the 30a to15a dogbone but we will be having the proper receptacle put in place so we don’t have to bother with extension cords and adapters anymore. We currently have a 30a TT but will be upgrading to a larger one when the kids are out of daycare, but that’s still like 4 years away. Our electrician is a camper so I’m confident in his work but I don’t want to bother him until we are ready for the work. Let’s say we wanted to have a 30a and a 50a receptacle installed. We would use the 30 now and the 50 when we finally upgrade down the road. Would we need a dedicated 50a line AND a dedicated 30a line run to their respective receptacles by the camper? Or would we only need one dedicated 50a line and then they’d splice the line behind the receptacles to feed the 50a and the 30a receptacles? We wouldn’t be using the 50a and the 30a at the same time. We do have a 50a to 30a dogbone just in case the 30a receptacle at the campground is down.

RE: RV Power Cord FIRE!!!

I've found that the combo of a 30A RV cord, 30A to 15A adapter and extension cord is a BAD combination. many of the 30A/15A adapters have very weak contacts on the 30A side which will loose tension against the 30A blades pretty easy. = overheating= weaker contacts= trouble. And the heat affects not only the adapter, but the nice copper high heat conductivity to the 30A plug assy. Not a good combo. If I'm going from a 30A plug to extension cord I use one of the short "dogbones" that has a real 30A receptical on one end and a stout 15A blade on the other end with about 12" of wire in between We used a dogbane for the past 12 years and I finally bought a new one last month. The new one was working fine and we just got back from a trip last weekend and I could t find the brand new dogbone and I already got rid of the really old one. I ended up using a hockey puck one and my replacement arrived today. I still have no idea where that month old one went. :-( As I said, I fully intend on just bypassing the adapters and plugging right into a 30a receptacle at the house in the coming months. No need for adapters and no need to drag my 250lb genny across the lawn just to power the AC while we are cleaning and setting the camper up.

RV Power Cord FIRE!!!

A while back I noticed that the actual black cord had detached from the plug on our 30a cord. There was about a 1/2” gap were you could see the actual white, black and green wires. Been meaning to replace the cord but never got around to it. Anyway, camper is on the side of our house and plugged in using a 30a to 15a adapter to an extension cord. The fridge was on electric and perhaps 2 or 3 lights were on in the camper, but they are all led’s. I was sitting at the kitchen table yesterday morning and it was raining. All of a sudden I noticed some white smoke coming from the side yard. I ran to a window over there but didn’t see any more smoke. I ran to another window and was assuming the neighbor was power washing his fence but when I got to the second window I saw the rv cord with a small flame, almost like a fuse or sparkler burning. At this point I ran outside and pulled the extension cord from the house and then checked out the camper. By then all the smoke, flames and sparks had subsided but the smell was in the air. The extension cord, adapter and the plug for the camper cord were still connected but there were no visible signs of any wires inside the camper plug. I looked at the camper cord and the end was melted and again, I didn’t see any wires. Later in the day I noticed some gfi outlets in my house and tripped, but they are on the other side of the house so I don’t believe they were on the same circuit. My wife was out at the time so I had her stop to the local rv dealer for a new cord and I had everything replaced about 5 hours after the initial incident. All seems well now. I’m glad I was home at the time because who know what would have happened if I didn’t unplug it. We’ve only been keeping the camper at the house instead of a storage yard since December. Having a dedicated 30a receptacle installed is in the works.

RE: Northeast Family Campground Suggestions

One spot you might like is Point Lookout State Park in Scotland, MD. Great park! Another Maryland state park is Elk Neck State Park in North East MD. Both within your driving limits. They look great but both say they are basically closed for 2024 due to renovations.

Northeast Family Campground Suggestions

We've got a few TT's in our camping circle and I've loved camping with my niece and nephews through the years. They were all very close in age and are now 12-16 so the past few years were what I would consider the golden years of family camping. We've been to Normandy Farms, Lake George RV Park and Yogi Bear Lazy River in Gardner NY to name a few. We've loved each of these the various time we've visited. Lots of activities and fun for the kids and you really don't have to venture out of the campground if you don't want to. With that said, we currently have a 3 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. We just returned from a week stay at Normandy Farms for our first big family camping trip. I knew going into the trip that the campground activities were limited for them so we planned some area outings during the week to keep them busy. One day we spent at Bass Pro, one day we went to a childrens museum, one day we went to the Newport Mansions and another day we visited a different childrens museum. We planned those outings around the few campground activities they could participate in and the entire week went really well. We are currently looking into family campgrounds for the next few years. We live on Long Island and are looking at a max distance of about 4-5 hours from NYC in any direction. Water, electric and sewer are a must. There doesn't have to be tons of activities at the campground since our kids are still too young for most things, but we are interested in activities outside the campground. Those outside activities don't have to all be for the kids, but they do have to be things we can take the kids along with us. As I mentioned, we did tour the Newport Mansions with them so things like that are ok too.
